Obituary
The Rev. Oliver B. Skanse passed away in Seattle May 21, 2009 at age 85. Ed: B.A. Psychology Doane College, Nebraska ’45; M.A. Musicology U.W. ’65, Th.M. General Theological Seminary NY ’68. Served as a priest in the Diocese of Olympia ’68-’82, last at St. Matthew Church, Auburn; chaplain St. John’s School, Guam ’82-’87; music educator for Guam Public Schools ’87-’07. He recently relocated to Seattle in January of this year at the Horizon House.
Member of American Guild of Organists.
Survived by wife Lois, son David Skanse wife Laura, daughters Rebecca Henderson husband James, and Rachel Jackson husband Charles, and 4 grandchildren. Pre-deceased by son Gregory.
He was a compassionate, spiritual man who loved music, people, and the beautiful summers in the Pacific NW, which sadly he missed this year, his first year back from the tropics.
Last respects: Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, 1732 Broadway, Tuesday, May 26, 11 AM to 4 PM.
Memorial service: Trinity Episcopal Church, 8th & James, Seattle, May 30, Saturday, 11 AM, followed by reception at Horizon House 9th & University.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Episcopal Church Fund for World Relief.
He was always such a wonderful teacher! I have such fond memories of him back on Guam!! one of my favorites was how he use to take my white sunglasses and where them around the class room as a joke to me. He was acting “COOL” He will miss him!! My prayers go out to the family!!!
