Oliver PICKFORD
January 18, 1925 – February 24, 2016, Oliver passed away peacefully on February 24th surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii son of Oliver Pickford of Fort Worth, Texas and Jennie Nakiaha of Honolulu, Hawaii. Oliver was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Oliver is survived by his wife Mewlang; children Johanna, Oliver Kaiula (Patty), Vanessa Koski (John), Kehau, and Owens; his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
After serving in Europe during WWII, Oliver returned to Honolulu, where he returned to work as a stevedore, and married Mewlang Ah Chow on August 25, 1951. His work as a longshoreman led him to move from Honolulu to Seattle in 1964. He was a man who believed in hard work, prayer, and perseverance. Oliver enjoyed gardening, dancing, and listening to Hawaiian music. He always had a gift for sensing when someone needed help and tried to meet that need.
A viewing for friends and family to be on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at Bonney – Watson located 16445 International Blvd from 6pm – 9pm. The Memorial service will be held on Thursday March 3, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 14022 Ambaum Blvd SW Seattle WA with a viewing at 2pm and the service at 3pm.

Oliver was a great boss to work for. I remember years ago, going to a luau because I knew the Thomas family, and Oliver was the King that night. My prayers are with the family.
Thinking about the Pickford’s all weekend. So fortunate to have called him Uncle and Mew-Lang Auntie.. He taught us some other words too! Our love from Texas. Will always have fond and loving memories of the Pickford family. xo
As a longshoreman looking to be a Foreman, I will always remember your Style and your Knowledge. I share the sorrow of loosing a Great man, you will be remembered for the rest of my life.
Oliver was one of the kindest, most gentle of men I had ever met, I strive to be like him!!!

Farewell to one of the best foremen in the ILWU that I ever worked for. I worked many times for Oliver on container ships, yard work and apple ships. One of the sayings he used to use on the ships, and I still use it to this day is “don’t bruise the fruits.” I worked with Oliver so many times I can’t remember them all. He was the lead foreman on my one and only casual foreman’s job. Our best to his family. His memory will be with me forever.

Growing up in Hawaii, staying at your home(Jimmy & Mikey during summer) sharing hula life and so many wonderful times and your pickled eggs. Heaven is lucky to have such a wonderful angel with Uncle Oliver. Our Mom, Ethel & brother Mikey are there too. Dear Aunty Mewlang we will keep you and your family in our prayers.
