Obituary

Paul was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on April 20, 1931. He grew up in Axtell, Nebraska – the only child of Carl and Hulda Young. Paul joined the Navy during the Korean War, spending most of his five years of service in the Pacific including two years in Japan.

After being discharged from the Navy, he married Barbara Huber and through the years had five children: Marty, Kathy, Ken, Diane, and Heidi. Paul worked 31 years for the government as a quality assurance officer for Department of Defense contracts. His work took him to many areas including Omaha, Minnesota, Wyoming, Michigan, Mississippi, North Dakota, Montana, and finally Seattle. Most of this time was spent in Minnesota, where he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and family camping trips. He was active in the South Saint Paul VFW. He finished his career with the government at Boeing, and then worked for Boeing another six years before really retiring.

After his first marriage had ended and he moved to Seattle, he went to a dance one night with the Boeing Singles. There he met a woman named Gerry: a single lady with two daughters, Marilee and Jennee. After that first dance, they kept dancing together for 25 years. Paul and Gerry enjoyed life together. They danced, golfed, fished, camped, and traveled full time for four years. They had to curtail many of these activities in recent years due to Paul’s health, but they still enjoyed their togetherness and their children and grandchildren.
