Peter C. Spieker, Sr.,
Peter C. Spieker, Sr., beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away on February 4, 2017, at home surrounded by his children. He and his twin sister Maria were born May 10, 1925 in Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to a family that included seven brothers, Gerrit, Frits and Johan (twins), Marinus, Cornelis, Bernard, William, and sister, Anna. He came to the United States in 1929 at the age of three. He was raised in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and saw action in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany during World War II with the Second Armored Division, including the Battle of the Bulge, and served in Berlin during the postwar occupation. He was employed by Curtiss-Wright and Bendix Corporations. It was while working at Bendix that he met his future wife, Agnes Elizabeth McGuire in a carpool. They married in New Jersey on November 6, 1954 and moved to Bellevue, Washington, where they resided until 1969. They had four children: Nanci Ellen Spieker of Lynnwood, WA, born 1955; David Michael Christiaan Spieker of Modesto, CA, born in 1957; Johan Karl Spieker of Burien, WA, born in 1959; and Peter Christiaan Spieker, Jr., of SeaTac, WA, born in 1961. Peter joined Boeing as an aerospace machinist in 1955 and was employed there until his retirement in 1989. In addition, he had a second job for 10 years with Bellevue Public Schools as a custodian. He was a long time member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. In 1969, he and his family moved to Kirkland, WA and in 1980 to Hobart, Washington. As a naturalized US citizen, he never missed voting in an election. He traveled throughout his life visiting all 50 states and to the Netherlands with his brother Cornelis in 1982. His wife Agnes passed away in 2004. He is survived by his twin sister, Mary Martin; brother, William Spieker; sons, Peter Christiaan Spieker Jr., Johan Karl Spieker, and David Christiaan Spieker; daughter Nanci Ellen Spieker; grandchildren Anjanette Colbert, Mark Colbert, Joseph Spieker, and Derek Spieker. Peter C. Spieker, Sr. will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved his sense of humor. Instead of flowers, his family requests a ceremonial firing of a muzzle-loading rifle and a donation to the American Lung Association in his memory. A public viewing will be held February 13th from 2-5pm at Bonney-Watson, SeaTac; a memorial service will also be held on March 25, email nancis@irishclub.org for details.
I remember my Uncle Pete from the time he lived in NJ and was a low-key guy, but a lot of fun. After he and Agnes moved to Washington, he wrote funny letters to my mother and I looked forward to reading them. I’ll miss him, but have great memories of him.
