Obituary
Phyllis Grotz passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 95, after a long and disabling battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles Grotz, daughter Pam Newell (Steve), daughter Gloria Elliott (Tom), son Gary Grotz (Kim), sister Dorothy Brunette (Rod), nine grandchildren (Lisa, Jessica, Lesley, Mark, Abby, Bridget, Claire, Peter, and Grace) and nine great-grandchildren ( Marin, Madeline, Max, Marcus, Owen, Jackson, Maya, Eva and Milo).
Phyllis was born in Adel, Iowa to Mary and Luther Eyres, moved to Tacoma at the age of 11, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. She worked at the shipyards during WWII, and in June 1947 married Charles, the love of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, and felt the most fulfilled when she was caring for her young family, and her grandchildren. An accomplished cook and homemaker, she loved to knit, sew and quilt. She volunteered at Highline Hospital for over 20 years, working with mothers and newborns; participated in making and donating quilts for charity; and supported St. Francis of Assisi Church through the St. Joan of Arc Circle.
Phyllis had a great sense of humor and made many friends over the years. Even in a disabled state, she managed to make people laugh and was able to communicate her love for them. She will be missed, and there is much gratitude for all the years we had with her. The family would like to thank Phyllis’s wonderful caregivers, Joanne and Marie, as well as Franciscan Hospice for their loving kindness and support, especially during this past year.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 15236 21st Ave. S.W., Burien, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School.

Charlie, Pam, Gloria,Gary and families, What a long, full life Phyllis lived. It was comforting to read that she was able to at home with all of you. She lives in my memory as one of the beyond wonderful women who made our childhoods so full of love and caring, not to mention fun. I remember her as gentle, positive and welcoming.
