Pompie O’Neal Favors born August 10, 1932 in Ivanhoe, Texas to parents Amsee and Jimmie Favors passed away after a short illness on February 14, 2013, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He slipped away peacefully surrounded by his daughters, Claudia Abraham, Debra Favors, Donna Favors, Janine Doss (Carlie); grandchildren Lanae Miller, Robert Abraham, Jr., Charla Murphy, Damien Harper, Ebone Jones, Darion Doss; and great-grandchildren Aaron Favors and DeLilah Corbett, all of Seattle. His great-grandchildren, DeMario Hearns who resides in Fontana, California; William Abraham, Jr. and Kiya Abraham of Seattle, were unable to be there but sent their love. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his sister, Glenestine Taylor of Fresno, California, brother, James C. Favors (Doris) of Woodinville, Washington and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Willie Gregg (2010), grandson William Douglas Abraham (2008), and seven sisters and four brothers.Pompie was raised on a small farm in Texas. At an early age, it became Pompie’s responsibility to run the family farm because his father was blind and his older siblings had left home. This early training prepared him for a life of hard work and allowed him to gain exceptional skills.
Pompie became acquainted with his wife Willie at age seven when she came to his home after the death of his aunt. They reunited in 1953 and soon after moved to California for a short while before settling in Seattle. After arriving in Seattle he made a living as a plasterer, completing a four-year apprenticeship with Dixon and Blyth in 1959. He worked his trade in Seattle with different companies for many years until starting his own construction company in the 70’s and later opened an upholstery shop. As a jack of all trades, Pompie could do just about anything and he took great pride in excellence. After retiring he continued to work on small projects throughout the Seattle area. He was well known for his expertise.
He taught us strength, independence, confidence, and faith. We thank him for what he gave to us. He was an involved devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved and will be missed.
