Purificacion “Purita” Aquino Dimalanta
1928 – 2018
On the morning of April 19th, 2018, Purita Aquino Dimalanta passed away peacefully in her sleep, to go home to the kingdom of God.
Purita was born and raised in San Carlos, Pangasinan, Philippines and graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a degree in Science Education. In 1952 she wed Primitivo “Fred” Dimalanta, also of San Carlos, and they immigrated to Seattle, Washington where they would make that their home for the rest of their lives together. There, they would raise 3 loving boys: Ray, James, and Fred.
Once her youngest was of age to enter school, Purita went to work as a job placement counselor with the Washington State Employment Security Department from which she retired after over 25 years of service.
In her spare time, Purita was extremely active in various community organizations. She was well-known and admired as she held numerous leadership and organizational positions with such groups as The Filipino Community of Seattle, The Pangasinan Association of the Pacific Northwest, and The Caballeros de Dimas-Alang (Gabriela Silang Lodge #89), to name a few.
When Purita wasn’t busy serving her community, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, and if she wasn’t in the kitchen, she was sure to be found at the mahjong table, often playing late into the night, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. She had a love for travel and especially cruises, having made multiple sailings to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Alaska. Playing bingo was another favorite pastime of hers, so much so, she was known as a regular on the Muckleshoot bingo shuttle-bus, passing the nights away during her retirement years.
Purita leaves behind: her two sons, James “Buddah” and Fred; two loving daughters-in-law, Ruby and Chris; and 3 grandchildren, David, Brianne, and Evan. Other surviving family members are her half-brothers and half-sisters, all from San Carlos: Rudy Aquino, Simplicio Aquino, Ronaldo Aquino, Rea Naval, Veronical Naval, and Angel Aquino.
Preceding her in death are: her husband, Primitivo; her son, Ray; and her brother, Anastacio Aquino.
Many of those who knew her know that Purita’s favorite color was purple, the color of the amethyst, her February birthstone. If you plan on attending any of the planned memorial services, the family asks that you participate in the celebration of Purita’s life by wearing something purple. She would have loved to see that. Thank you.
Your loving spirit will live on through your beloved family. May you rest in peace, Auntie Puring.
My condolences and prayers of strength to you and your family Fred. May you rest in peace and may the eternal light shine upon you Auntie Purita.
