Obituary

Rachell was born in Morrilton, AR to Luther and Mary Jackson.  She was an only child, but grew up with a host of cousins in Fort Smith, AR.  She graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1952.  She later continued her education and attended Seattle OIC where she studied computer programming.

She married the love of her life James C. Hershey on December 31, 1956.  They initially made their home in Yakima, WA to be close to Rachell’s mother.  This union was blessed with eight children.  From 1956 until 1965 the young couple alternated living between Yakima, WA and Seattle, WA as they supported their ever-growing family.  After 1965, the couple settled in West Seattle.  In 1969, the couple bought a house in Burien, WA as they sought to provide the best educational advantages for their growing children.

One of Rachell’s greatest joys was living her faith.  She fellowshipped with an interdenominational women’s Bible Study Group in the Burien area.  Rachell also enjoyed serving the Lord at her home church Greater new Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she undertook many roles.  She served as Church Mother, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, as well as volunteering with multiple events such as vacation bible school and after church dinners.  Rachell was proceeded in death by her parents and her son Kenneth.

Rachell is survived by her husband James Sr, her children James Jr (Pat), Delores, Curtis, Brenda, Fred (Pat), Darryle (Krystle), Reggie (Diana) , a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The legacy that she left continues to grow and spread.  We will always remember the love she has shown.  Rachell’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother and “grandma”
