Obituary
Ramone Lucena La Madrid was born on March 9, 1936 in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He was the youngest of 6 children and had a talent for music singing, playing the piano, guitar, and ukulele. As a young boy, Ramone developed his faith in the Catholic Church and would become a devoted servant all his life. He attended Far Eastern University in Manila and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, majoring in Accounting.
It was on Valentine’s Day of 1964 when Ramone would come to meet his future wife, Florence, while on a double-blind date. Although she was not his date that day, they would later find themselves spending time together eventually becoming sweethearts. Ramone waited for her to graduate from college before they would marry on December 22, 1966. They started a family in Manila and by 1970 were blessed with 3 daughters, Roselyn, Floramie, and Marife.
Ramone moved to America in June of 1972 when he joined The St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company in Seattle. In 1973, after being apart for almost a year, Ramone was reunited with his family. They purchased their forever home in 1975 in South Seattle. In 1977, Ramone and Florence received another blessing and welcomed their only son, Marvin.
As a family, they attended church every Sunday, enjoyed road trips to Vancouver BC, and had fun hosting gatherings at their home with relatives and friends. Although he retired from his accounting job in 1998, between 2007-2015, Ramone found enjoyment working with the Tukwila School District as a service worker. Concurrently, true to his Catholic faith, Ramone volunteered as an usher at St. James Cathedral for over 40 years and is a 3rd-degree knight and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ramone enjoyed bowling, basketball, badminton, and playing bingo at Muckleshoot. But most of all, Ramone loved playing chess. A lover of animals, Ramone spent many summer days in his yard gardening, tending to his fruit trees, and caring for his cats and dogs.
After battling many ailments, the past few years, Ramone passed away peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by family on December 9, 2021.
Ramone is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Florence; daughters, Roselyn (Rob) Thomas, Floramie (Ray-deceased) Phillips, Marife (Chris) Miesen, and son, Marvin (Melinda); 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Ramone was a loving husband, an incredible dad to his children, and the best grandpa to his grandkids and great-grandkids. His gentle soul and genuine smile will truly be missed.
