Raymond William POINTS
Treasured father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend Raymond Points died on February 25, 2008 at the end of a long and incredibly well-lived life. Ray was born August 1, 1923 to Philip Edgar Points and Josephine Evangeline Jacobs Points 30 miles NW of Rushville in Sheridan County, Nebraska. The family lived on a farm and his father owned a trading post. When Ray was a teenager he moved to the White Center area of Seattle to live with an uncle. After high school he enlisted in the Navy on November 11, 1943, was trained in the sheet metal trade, and served as a Seabee on the Atlantic coast and the Pacific islands during WWII. When Ray was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945 in Seattle, he began his career as a sheet metal worker and joined SMW Local No. 66. Because of his sharp mind, excellent skills and practices, he worked at his trade consistently for about 40 years in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. He worked on universities, schools, hospitals, the Space Needle, and numerous tall buildings in the Seattle area. Ray built his brick home in the Burien area in the early 1950s, and lived there until cancer and other health problems required him to move to the Masonic Retirement Center in June 2004 and then to Normandy Park Senior Living in March 2005. Ray liked to cook and eat good food. He was always available to help a friend with home repairs or other needs, and he volunteered at the Seattle VA Hospital over 20 years. He was a Past Master twice of South Gate Lodge 100 in Burien, Past High Priest and District Deputy of Triple Tau Royal Arch Masons, a member of Southgate Eastern Star, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Shrine. He also belonged to the Masonic Service Bureau, Elks No. 2143, Eagles, and Grange. Ray is survived by his son Blaine Leon Points Sr., grandsons Blaine Kim Leon Points Jr., and Eric Lea Raymond Points; great-grandchildren Josh, Justin, and Tyler; and numerous nephews and nieces in Colorado. Funeral services will be held at Bonney-Watson/Parker Chapel, 900 SW 146th Street Burien, on Tuesday, March 4 at 2:00 PM with a viewing at 1:00 PM The reception will be held at South Gate Masonic Hall at 1004 SW 152nd Street, Burien.
