Richard Lee Carlson was born on April 1, 1943 in Ellendale, North Dakota to parents George and Zelma Carlson. After graduating from Ellendale High School, he joined the US Army. He served in the Army for two years. His military service took him to Germany where he served as a Specialist 4 in a tank and artillery division. Upon returning to the States he moved to Seattle. His uncle, Burt Ryder Charlotte and Judy’s dad got him a job at Beebe Bros. Manufacturing. Jackie came to Seattle for Christmas in 1968 when Richard proposed to her. They married on July 19, 1969 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Soon after their marriage, Richard and Jackie moved to West Seattle. They later moved in to their current and long-time residence in Burien. Charlotte’s husband, Ed Wood, hired Richard at Seattle Bindery and Mailing as a driver. Richard worked, both Beebe Bros. and Seattle Bindery for several years before working exclusively at Seattle Bindery. He had been with Seattle Bindery for over 30 years until his health forced him to retire.

He is survived his wife Jacqueline “Jackie”; his three sons: Chris and his wife Jean; Jeremy and Peter: all who still live in Burien; one granddaughter, Vanessa; his three sisters: Beverly Ackerman of Ellendale, North Dakota; Nita Steinwand of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Kay Dorsch of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and his one brother: Don Carlson of Denver, Colorado.

My deepest sympathy to the Carlson family in their recent loss. Richard was a wonderful person and I enjoyed my contact with him through his work with Seattle Bindery. He was always a joy to deal with and always remembered your name and face. Your loss is also our loss. Barbara Siegfried, Star Printing.
