Obituary

Ricky Dale Johnson was born July 31st, 1953 in Renton, WA. He joined the Blue Devils Drill Team when he was in junior high school and became the captain of the team during 1971 & 1972. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1971. In 1975 he worked for his sister Linda and her husband at Adams Asphalt. In 1978 Rick started crab fishing in Alaska where he was the Deck boss, Engineer and then Captain. He fished with many family members including Borge, his brother Gary, brother in-law Dean and his nephew Deano. Rick was almost always the oldest guy on deck , but he was always the best guy on deck and he took pride in that. Rick could always keep up if not set the pace of guys half his age.

The only thing Rick liked more than fishing was flying HOME from fishing. He was a hero to many. One great heroic moment he had was saving a fishing boat from sinking in Alaska. Our family will miss his laugh, shake of his shoulders and his humor. He had a heart of gold and we are honored to call him family. He was survived by his brother Gary Johnson, Steve Johnson, his sister & brother-in law Pam & Jim Young, sister Cindy Schmidt, sister Tammy Harstad, sister & brother-in law Jeanne & Dean Gribble and numerous nieces and nephews. His family recommends tributes in his honor go to the Seattle Fisherman’s Memorial. A memorial with family only will be held at the Seattle Yacht Club from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on 12/19/10. Address is 2601 W. Marine Pl. Seattle, WA 98199. Another memorial for all will be held on 12/19/10 at the T-Bird starting at 3:00 pm. Address is 7515 15th Avenue N.W. Seattle, WA 98117. Rick was a crab fisherman in Bering Sea long before there was a Deadliest Catch.Rick would of made great TV. He fished for over 30+ years and was proud to say that was what he did, and that he was a fisherman. Rick was ‘Uncle Rick ‘ to more people than his family, he was Uncle Rick to the crews he fished with in Alaska. Always looking out for everybody around him. Most people will live a life time and not experience the giving heart that Rick showed every day of his life. Rick will be missed by meany people family , friends and crew’s he fished with. His laugh his smile and his ever present sense of humor will be missed by all. Rick, it’s your wheel watch !

Rick was my Baby brother, How can you put 57 years worth of memory in such little time. All of you that knew him know that he was a jokester, always pulling some kind of thing out that that he probably got at Archies McFees. Omg that was Rick.He always Had that big smile on his face with his hands locked togather behind his back, with a smirk on his face, you always knew he was up to something.

He was in the Blue Devils Drill Team where He was captain before he left the team. He went to work For Adams Asphalt, that was owned by His big sister and her husband Keith.

He then moved on with Borge, where he started fishing. He Loved Fishing. He fished with his Brother Gary ,Brothers Inlaw Dean Gribble Bob Ferkingstad and lot of good buddys.

Summers off fishing he went back to working at Adams Asphalt. He was a worker. Fishing and his family was his Life. Rick I will miss you every day ,I will miss your beautiful blue eyes, I will miss hearing your voice. MY BABY BROTHER I WILL MISS AND LOVE YOU FOREVER. Rest in peace, I will think of you every day!!

Rick,

I am glad I got to meet you face to face, of that there is ”no doubt”. Your phone calls will remain special, and I will rememeber what we talked about. I will picture you at sea where you most loved to be, and I will think of you with fond memories as your looking down on me.Love, Kendal

I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. He was like a brother to me in our teen years and we shared many great times together. I still tell stories to this day about Rick. He was loved and will be missed deeply.
