ROBERT ALEXANDER LEVACK

      11-18-1921   to     01-14-2014

Born on November 18, 1921 at Sawridge/ (Lesser) Slave Lake, Alberta, Canada, passed away on January 14, 2014 at the age of 92.

Bob was the 5th of 9 children born to Carolyn Clara Levack and Edward John Levack. His parents moved Bob and his sisters and brothers to the United States of America in 1924. Sisters: Hilda Levack Johnson (deceased); Logia Levack Hardin and Billie Levack Holt; brothers: Charles (Eddy) Levack (deceased) and Norman (Ted) Levack; Raymond (Ray) Levack; Morris (Roy) Levack and Leonard (Len) Levack.

At Georgetown, Washington at the age of 3, Bob came down with diphtheria and was given the last rites but thankful y he survived. The Levacks remain a close-knit family still today and celebrate at “family breakfast” monthly at Denny’s in Federal Way, WA

Bob attended Thomas Grade School; Kent Junior and Senior High Schools. He always loved sports and played baseball; football and basketball. Bob was President of the Boys Club along with his best friends, Jack Olson as Vice-President; Bill (Bud) Sells as secretary of this service organization.

Bob attended the university of Washington conference in his senior year of high school.  He was a member of the Kent senior high vigilantes which promoted a high standard of workmanship/service and they became one of the leading honor organizations of the school. As a senior, Bob won the annual vigilantes smoker trophy when he was judged an outstanding fighter.

Bob met his high school sweetheart, Norma Moore and they both graduated from Kent senior high in 1940. They were married in December, 1941 and celebrated 65 years together. Norma Moore Levack passed away on 08-24-2006 at the age of 83.  They had four children: daughter Jeanie Levack Glockner of Bonney Lake; son Robert James Levack (passed away 09-01-2008) but who was survived by wife Ellen (Asmussen) Levack of Shelton; daughter Carol Lynn and husband Terry Cleveland of South Prairie; daughter Donna and husband Rodney Bechtol of West Richland all of Washington state.  Bob was grandfather to 8 and great grandfather to 11.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army from 08-24-1942 to December 19, 1945. He was stationed overseas in England with the 120th station hospital as a surgical/medical technician. He was deployed to France and Bayreuth, Germany.  Bob earned the following medals: European African Middle East service medal (EAME); good conduct medal and the victory medal.  Bob was a member of the Kent American Legion, post 15 who’s purpose is to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and promote justice, freedom, democracy by preserving the memories and incidents of the great Wars/World war I and II. He also supported the American National Red Cross.

Bob developed and practiced “organic gardening” before this term even existed. Every spring you could find bob preparing his garden with his hoe and with great patience, he would spade his “organic plant compost” into his topsoil. He believed in crop rotation and soil management, even planting rye grass as a winter groundcover. Bob’s garden produced top rated corn, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, all without use of chemicals. He gladly shared all of this abundance with family, neighbors and friends, even strangers. He had a lifelong enjoyment of gardening and has passed that passion onto his family members. May his ideas and his spirit live on in all our gardens.

Bob took pride in his workmanship and he retired in December, 1986 from cello bag company of Kent, WA.  As a veteran of foreign wars who served overseas; as a father; grandfather and great grandfather Bob loved his family and country. He will be remembered as good natured, well liked, with an easy sense of humor (no one enjoyed a joke more than Bob Sr unless it was his son Bobby who laughed the longest at his own jokes and had the most fun), enjoyed life “in the moment” and viewed life as an adventure.

Rest in peace as god continues to bless and keep you in his love.

Dear Levack Family,

Please accept my sincere condolence on the loss of your dear family member. The loving Creator, Jehovah God, is also pained by your loss, and He has promised in His Word, the Bible that “he will wipe out every tear from [our] eyes, and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor out cry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

I got to know Bob playing volleyball with the Seniors. I admired his positive attitude and skills even at his advanced age. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My father is Joseph Levack, son of Ted Levack. I think in all of my years in the Levack family I only had the pleasure of meeting Bob at one family summer reunion. His legacy will live on for many more lifetimes to come. May your soul rest in piece for eternity.
