Robert August Hayman
February 27, 1952 - December 20, 2011
Obituary
Bob shuffled off this mortal coil on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at his home in Seattle, just over a year after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was 59 years old.
Born in San Francisco on February 27, 1952, Bob was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Lowell High School, Stanford University, and Oregon State University. Bob lived long enough to see the San Francisco Giants win the World Series and his beloved 49ers clinch their first playoff berth in 10 years. A passionate sports fan and athlete, Bob was a life-long distance runner who beat “the Hulk” (i.e. Edward Norton) in the 2009 New York City Marathon, and ran four other marathons, including a 2:36 PR and the 2004 Boston Marathon, during his lifetime. He loved comics, taiko drumming, and Motown music.
Bob’s fortitude and loyalty extended to many areas of his life: he worked for nearly 30 years as a tribal fisheries biologist for the Skagit River Systems Cooperative in LaConner, WA, was married to his wife, Barbara, for almost 35 years, and was a devoted father to his two children, Mari and Danny. He embraced his own weird individuality and that of others; he was well known for his unique sense of style, his joyous if not altogether tuneful singing, and his enormous appetite for food and life. He made us all laugh.
Bob leaves behind his immediate family, siblings Jon, Jim and Cathy, and many friends and relatives. Bob exuded joy and enthusiasm in everything he did, and he fought cancer with the utmost bravery, determination, and grit. He was and always will be an irreplaceable part of our lives.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on January 15, 2012 at the Swinomish Social Services Building, 17337 Reservation Road, La Conner, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Daruma Foundation at the Seattle Foundation, 1200 5th Ave, Suite 1300, Seattle, WA 98101 or to the charity of your choice.
