Obituary

Robert Herschel Martin passed away on October 10, 2009. He was born on December 26, 1925 in Seattle and attended Highline High School. When he was 18 years old, he joined the Merchant Marines where he spent most of his time in the Philippines and Australia. Shortly after coming home, he married Marcella Joyce Higman and moved to Elma where he did carpentry work. They moved to Canada on June 25, 1947 to help Robert’s parents run a ranch in Bridge Lake, B.C. In addition to all of his ranching responsibilities, he often worked as a hunting guide. Four years later, he moved to another ranch in Princeton, B.C. with his parents, wife and children. In Princeton, he worked extremely hard ranching and logging. In 1958, he sold the ranch and moved his family back to Seattle, WA. He bought a farm in Auburn, WA. where he still could have some cattle. He went to work for Milwaukee Sausage and later for Meat Specialty in sales and delivery. In October of 1983 he retired so he could spend his time doing his favorite things; golfing, gardening and raising his cattle. He always went back to Canada to visit his old friends. He loved his 1956 GMC Truck. The joy of his life was his family and it was sustained by a strong work ethic. He is survived by his wife, Marcella and his children, Bobbie Jean, Jeff Theresa, Greg Jan and Melodie Ken. He had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A service celebrating Robert’s life will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 12:30 at BONNEY-WATSON Parker Chapel, 900 SW 146th Street, Burien, WA. 206 244-2320. Please sign the guest book at www.bonneywatson.com. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, Seattle, WA.

Bobby was another “great guy” of that remarkable group of friends that came out of Highline High School. That group was special and he was a big part of it.

A very gentle man waslost with his passing. He worked vwer hard with all of his therapy and tried to do his best. He always appoligzed for being so slow, I tols him never to appoligze for his rate of speed. When ever he did something he was not supposed to do I would ask “Did You have my permission”. I will miss our morning routine.
