Robert Lee Franklin Greninger, long-time resident of South Seattle, passed away at the age of 85, on March 5, 2019 in Apache Junction, AZ.
Robert was born on November 20, 1933 to Chester Arthur and Doretta Joanna Greninger, one of 10 children, in Afton, Oklahoma. He played varsity football for the Afton High School Eagles and was the first graduate of that high school to graduate college. After high school, Robert enlisted in the Airforce as a Jet Engine mechanic, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.
Upon leaving the Air Force he and his first wife divorced. Robert then moved to Wichita, KS to attend Wichita State University on the G.I. Bill and to work on B-52 bombers at the Boeing plant. It was in Wichita that he met Beth Munn, an Idaho farm girl who was completing an internship for nursing school.
Following their marriage in the Idaho Falls, ID temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, they moved to Salt Lake City, UT where Robert attended the University of Utah.
Robert attained the degree of BS in Electrical Engineering. In 1965 they moved to Seattle, WA to begin work as an Electrical Engineer for the Boeing Company. Robert spent much of his career in the Top Secret or “Black” area of Boeing as a microwave and radar design engineer. Robert retired from the Boeing Company as a Senior Engineer with 47 years of service.
Robert loved his family, working on cars, photography, sports, all things electronic, camping, and fishing. He was a voracious reader with a keen sense of recall, loved to study new things, and would then apply them in the house and with his family.
He is survived by 2 brothers, Leroy and Louie and 3 sisters, Imagene, Loretta and Rosa Belle as well as his daughters Ratana, Tami (Robert), Laura (Charles), and sons, Shawn (Christine) and John (Sheila), and grandchildren, Aaron, Emily and Samantha.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 16th, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 200 South 177th Place, Normandy Park, WA.
He will be interned at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Tuesday March 19th, 2019.
