Robert Lyle Bermingham

January 22, 1922 - January 5, 2011

Obituary

Robert Bermingham, age 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in Tacoma, WA. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lovey; son, Jack Bermingham and his wife Gail; grandchildren, Matt, Kaitlin, and Bo James.

Bob was born in Paso Robles, California in 1922, grew up in Shandon, and lived for fifty years in the area before relocating with his job with Vangas. He met the love of his life when he was 16, and Lovey and he married in 1945. They lived in Shandon, Paso Robles and Templeton during those years. He was one of the original members of the Paso Robles Country Club and took great pride in being the first to tee off when it opened. He also enjoyed his family’s role in Pioneer Day and his father’s mule team and wagons.

He and Lovey moved to Tacoma to be near their son and grandchildren. Matt, Kaitlin, and Bo had the privilege of their grandpa providing their daycare and doting over each of them while growing up.

Even after he moved north, he spoke often about his extended family, close friends from Paso, and, as he would have called them, his ‘adopted’ nephews and nieces. His brothers’ surviving children, June, Ed Butch, Kathy, Janet, Tom, and Jim were always dear to him. He was equally fond of those ‘adopted’ nieces and nephews, including Francie Kuhnle’s children, Denise, Jeff, Patty, Joe, Mary, and Frank as well as Kirby Brush’s children, Karen, Colleen, and Kevin. It is certain that each of them together with Brian Brooks and Martha Trussler made him feel like his loving family was quite large.

All should remember Bob as a kind and gentle man with a big heart. He rests in peace knowing that he was loved and appreciated. His ashes will be spread at a future date in Shandon.

At Bob’s request, no services will be held. The family suggests that remembrances be made to the Robert Bermingham Memorial Scholarship, c/o Highline Community College Foundation, PO Box 98000, MS 99-248, Des Moines, WA 98198. The family is thankful to Franciscan Hospice for their care.

Uncle Bob was a gentile giant. He always had a joke to tell and was full of love and fun. I loved him very much and will miss him truly. My thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Lovey, Jack & Gail and the grandkids. He did love family and was very proud of them all. Rest in peace Uncle Bob.
