Obituary

Robert Paul “Bob” Gettmann of Maple Valley passed away April 8, 2025 at the age of 70.

Bob was born in Seattle, August 16, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Leo Gettmann and Murline Frances Gettmann; brothers, Larry Keene, Daniel Gettmann, and John Michael Gettmann; sister, Pamela Kinnett Sadeck, and niece Destinee Kinnett.

Bob is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Gettmann and son, Nicholas Gettmann; brother-in-law, Leo Kinnett; nieces, Tammie Anderson, Murline Kinnett, Danielle Thompson, Charity Sadeck, Jamie Peery, and Crystal Talton; nephew Kelvin Sadeck, Jr., as well as their many children. He was the dependable rock his family could lean on always.

Bob attended Catholic School until the divorce of his parents when he transferred to public schools in Tacoma and then Seattle. He graduated from Chief Sealth High School in Seattle and worked full-time following graduation while taking various college classes.

Bob was a member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the Awana Cubbies program for 20 years. Bob also volunteered to assist with T-Ball, Baseball and Basketball teams that his son, Nick, enjoyed playing on from a young age.

Bob worked in facilities and custodial work at Renton Technical College and Renton School District for over 38 years. He maintained various licenses and completed numerous trainings in fields essential to his profession. Following Renton Tech, Bob worked for Puget Sound Educational Service District for 10 years supporting facilities at their Renton, Educare, Heritage, and Seola Gardens Early Learning sites, retiring in 2016.

Bob was friendly and outgoing; he loved to talk with everyone. He also enjoyed serving others and noticed someone who had a need – usually volunteering his help before being asked. Many quiet acts of service went unnoticed but were always greatly appreciated by the recipients. If you locked yourself out of your car, or needed help moving, you could call on Bob. He was loyal, trusting, and with his wonderful sense of humor loved telling jokes that mostly he thought were funny.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Bonney Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 International Boulevard, SeaTac, WA, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11am. All who knew Bob are invited to come and share your memories with his family and friends. A reception will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob Gettmann’s name may be made to the PSESD Learning Communities Foundation at Donate – Learning Communities Foundation
