With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ronald Louis Mettler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and one of the kindest souls to walk this earth. Ron left us peacefully at 10:00 p.m. on July 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, warmth, and unwavering love.
Ron was born at Tacoma General Hospital on August 24, 1935, to Louis and Emma Mettler (née Norling). From the very beginning, his life was marked by warmth, kindness, and a deep love for those around him.
Ron touched the lives of everyone he met with his gentle spirit, genuine smile, and open heart. He gave freely of his time, his laughter, and his wisdom-always there with a listening ear, a helping hand, or a warm embrace. To know Ron was to feel loved, seen, and supported.
Ron was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved motorcycle riding and camping, often sharing these adventures with his family. Those trips were filled with laughter, stories around the campfire, and the simple joy of being together in nature. He embraced the freedom and peace of the open road, and these cherished moments created memories that will live on for generations.
He also found great joy and friendship on the golf course. Golf was more than just a sport to Ron-it was a passion and a way to connect with the people he loved. Whether he was working on his swing, sharing stories with his golfing buddies, or simply enjoying a peaceful morning walk down the fairway, Ron cherished every moment. The camaraderie, laughter, and friendly competition brought him endless happiness, and his presence was always a bright spot in any group. He approached the game with the same kindness and good humor that he brought to every part of his life.
Ron was deeply proud of his Swiss heritage, which played an important role in his identity and life. He celebrated his roots with great pride, embracing the values of hard work, community, and hospitality that are central to Swiss culture. Ron was an active and devoted member of the Swiss Sportsman Club of Bonney Lake, where he found deep fellowship and lasting friendships. He loved attending events, sharing traditional Swiss foods, music, and stories, and participating in club activities that honored and preserved Swiss traditions. For Ron, being part of the club wasn’t just about heritage-it was about belonging to a family that cherished the same values he held so dear.
A proud graduate of Fife High School, Class of 1953, Ron went on to attend Washington State University, where he earned his BA degree in 1958. That same year, he joined the United States Army and faithfully served in the reserves until his honorable discharge in 1964, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E5).
He was a man who believed deeply in the goodness of people and lived every day with quiet strength and deep humility. His presence brought calm, comfort, and joy, and his kindness rippled through the lives of family, friends, and even strangers.
Ron’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he was the very heart of it. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, and the most caring grandfather. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in those he cherished most.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Fran; his daughters, Andrea and Cynthia; and his three grandchildren-Annamarie, Anthony, and Jessica-who brought him immense pride and joy.
We will miss him more than words can express. His memory will forever be a blessing and a guiding light for all of us who were lucky enough to love him. We take comfort in knowing that he is now with Jesus in heaven.
