Obituary
Rose Mathis was born in Darby, PA on March 1, 1935 to Rose & George Brown. She resided most of her early years in New Haven, CT. She went to school in the New Haven School District and graduated from Hillhouse High. Soon after, she met and married Albert Mathis in 1964. Together with their children Gerald, Denise, and Albert, they moved to Columbus, GA in 1972. There she worked as a chef on Fort Benning and when she moved to San Antonio, Texas, she worked as a chef on Randolph Air force Base. Later when she returned to Georgia she fulfilled one of her dreams, she became part owner of her own restaurant duly named ‘Our Delight’. Throughout her life Rose maintained a close personal relationship with Jehovah God, and she continued her studies with the Jehovah’s Witnesses until the day of her passing.
The most important parts of Rose Mathis’ life were her family, friends & her home. She had a zeal for living life to the fullest; her passion for new experiences was a part of her personality. She loved to dance and enjoyed all kinds of music, especially received comfort while listening to the piano, which was one of her favorite instruments. She loved to travel, cook, meeting new people, and making new friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. From the east coast to the west coast, Rose never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children, her daughter Denise Frank James, and son Albert Hilaria Mathis, of Federal Way, WA; and was preceded in death by her sons Gerald Lorraine Brown and Glen Brown. To all the James Family,
Thanks so much for allowing me to celebrate the life of Mama Rose. While I never met her, I feel like I got to know a bit of her through the stories Ms Denise would share, and I never will bake a goody again without thinking about Mama Rose calling me the cooking man. Just know that she is with God now and looks down and upon you all still sharing that spirit and caring way that made her the person she was!!!
