Rosemary Milnes Shepherd
Rosemary Milnes Shepherd June 16, 1924 ~ November 2, 2011 Rosemary was born on June 16, 1924, at Columbus Hospital, to Ben and Nellie Milnes. She was the granddaughter to Seattle pioneers, Anna and James Morrison. Rosemary loved her native city. She attended Sacred Heart School, Holy Names Academy and Seattle College (University). At Holy Names Academy she was editor of The Dome, Senior Class President and valedictorian for the class of 1942. She married Jack E. Shepherd in 1943. Together they had six children. Rosemary enjoyed raising her children on Capitol Hill where they attended St. Joseph School, Holy Names Academy and Seattle University. After her years at home rearing children, she held positions at The Chancery of the Archdiocese, Seattle University, King County 4-H, St. Joseph Church and more recently delighted in her “part-time” responsibilities at Red Mill Burgers. Rosemary loved music, being a member of church choirs at St. Anne’s, St. Monica’s andSt. Brendan’s. She loved gardening raising flowers, herbs and whatever vegetable would grow.She loved politics, sports (Dan Wilson), and her Catholic faith. She never misspelled a word or forgot an important fact. Preceded in death by beloved daughters, Kathleen and Monica; brother Ben (Buddy) Milnes.She is survived by her children John, Mark (Kym), Jeanine, Michael; grandsons Benjamin (Sarah), Johnny, Aaron; great-grandchildren Madison and Shae. Rosemary valued her family and friends. In writing her own obituary, she offered, she was most grateful her children love each other. She also noted her obituary “may have become too long as they charge more for the long winded ones!” Rosemary’s humor and presence will be missed forever. Many thanks to the care givers at St. Anthony’s Adult Family Home and Providence ElderPlace. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Joseph Church, Thursday, November 10 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made, online, to Providence ElderPlace, M.A.D.D or the charity of choice.
