Obituary

Rosie Lee Drayton was born on February 22, 1921 in Chatam, Louisiana to the union of Cliff Pierce and Annie Scott.  She spent her childhood growing up in Clay, Louisiana. She met the love of her life Houston William Drayton and married him on October 4, 1941. They moved to Seattle Washington a year later.  Rosie was employed by Todd Shipyard during World War II. After leaving Todd Shipyard she was employed by Troy Laundry. Eventually winding up at Boeing where she retired in the late 70’s to look after her ailing husband Houston and her final job was working for Seattle Nutritional Services.

Rosie Lee was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and great- great grandmother, who enjoyed her family tremendously. She also loved to tend to her plants and to cook.  Everyone knew that on Sunday if you wanted to eat or didn’t have nothing to eat you could show up at Rosie’s house and the door was always open and you were guaranteed to get yourself a plate of fried chicken, greens and cornbread. She was also known for keeping the cookie jar full for the kids and occasionally some banana pudding.  She got the most pleasure from spending time with her family and dear friends.

Rosie was always there to encourage her family to strive to be the best and was proud of all the many accomplishments her family achieved no matter how big or small.  She always had advice for you when you needed it and spoke the truth whether it was what you wanted to hear or not.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Houston Drayton, her son Marvin Drayton, her sister Mary Washington, her great-grandson William Mitchell and great-granddaughter Dannette Burfect.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Annette Burfect, Houston Malone Drayton (Gwen), Jean Evelyn Fields (Ward), James Roy Drayton, Patricia Pumphrey (Donald), 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of other extended family and friends.

To the Drayton Family: May God comfort you at your time of loss and give you peace of mind that He has called your sweet mother to rest. You know our families grew up together in the Valley and I will always remember Mrs. Drayton as that nice, beautiful woman with the youthful smile and appearance. May God bless you. Annette, I lost your phone number. You can call me at 206-240-8988.

It’s the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you’ll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.

May God bless your family and give each one grace during this time.

In His Name

Greg, Donna, Isaiah and Jason

I still remember the last time that I saw her. She was just talking and always had a big smile on her face. She will be greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
