Ruth Lillian Crum

August 8, 1915 - May 7, 2009

Obituary

On May 7, 2009 Ruth Lillian Crum joined her mother, father, husband, 10 siblings, and numerous friends and relatives in Heaven. Her two sons, Jimmy and David, have been waiting for her with open arms, leaving her daughter Pat with empty arms, but a heart full of loving memories. Also sharing in these memories are four grandchildren; Eirik Crum, Chris Crum Mindy, David Crum Tina, and Lea Espy Stephen and their five boys; Tyler, Joshua, Devon, Nathaniel, and Stephen Jr.

Ruth was born in a log cabin on a farm in Crookston, Minnesota August 8, 1915 and died peacefully in her Seattle home at age 93. She was a hard working woman who enjoyed life as a nanny/maid, ballroom dancer, wife, mother, F&N waitress, den mother, F&N wrapper, Sunday school teacher, F&N marker, and caregiver to her brother Pete. Ruth was an active member in Terje Viken SoN Lodge, for many years. She helped organize a troop of trolls from the Ballard Boys and Girls Club for the 17th of May parade. Ruth was a faithful member of Ballard First Lutheran Church drawing strength from the fellowship she found there.

People gravitated to Ruth, especially children. They drew to her because they instinctively knew that she loved them. She had a sincere and just nature, which helped when tutoring children in the Seattle Public Schools SPICE program. In retirement you could see her marching as a troll, volunteering at Nordic Heritage Museum, quilting at her church, and talking and laughing with friends and family members

Springtime was Ruth’s favorite time of year; she was always getting her hands dirty tending to her garden. She grew many vegetables and was well known for her homegrown, homemade rhubarb pies and desserts. There were also plenty of tomatoes to spread around to family and friends. Ruth also had a passion for flowers and there were always plenty of wonderful smells coming from her yard, except when the lily of the Nile was in bloom.

Always proud of her Norwegian heritage she would make the traditional lutefisk Christmas dinner with lefse and all the trimmings, but she would make roast beef for her non-lutefisk loving family members. Ruth was innovative in the kitchen and would try different recipes that 99.9% of the time were delicious. One year she made lefse with sweet potatoes and from then on she made sweet-potato lefse for us. If you like potato lefse, I can guarantee you will absolutely love sweet-potato lefse. Ruth touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Please join us at a memorial service at Ballard First Lutheran Church, May 14, 2009 at 1:00 pm. There will be a viewing at Wiggens and Sons on May 13th between noon and 7:00 pm. Donations can be made to Group Health Hospice, 911, or a charity of your choice.

It is pivotal to change your physician about any allergies you may have and also your medical history, before getting your Lipitor prescription. The drug Lipitor also has a bioequivalent generic which is identical to the brand in strength as well as safety and is sold at a slightly lower cost.
