Samuel Jae Yeong Lott

Obituary

Samuel Jae Yeong Lott, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly on May 14, 2014.

Sam was born in Korea and adopted as an infant by Stephen & Beth Lott. Sam was the youngest of three children in the family. He was his parent’s much loved “baby boy” all his life. His passing leaves a vast emptiness in their lives.

Sam graduated from Kentridge High School, attended Green River College, and was one class short of completing his business degree at University of Washington, Tacoma.  He lived in the Fairwood and Lake Morton neighborhoods of King County.

Life with family and extended family was important to Sam. Birthdays and holidays would bring the extended family together and would find Sam wrestling with the young kids, and later playing basketball or cards with the adults.

Sam’s friends found him to be very charismatic. To know him was to love him, and he was loved by many. A friend currently serving overseas says “Sam always was the one I could count on to hang out with when I arrived home.” This sentiment is echoed by all of his friends. He was the friend that many called “best friend”. He loved to play basketball, shoot pool, and generally hang out with friends. It was not unusual for him to spontaneously break out in song or rap. He was quick to make people laugh with his jokes. Sam’s friends will miss him enormously.

Sam loved to dress in sports jerseys and caps, and Nike Jordan shoes. He followed sports locally – Seahawks, Mariners and Husky football. He was an avid Sonics fan and continued to follow the team after it moved away. He knew all the top NBA stars and had his favorites that he loved to talk about.

Sam is survived by his parents, Stephen & Beth Lott, his brother, John Lott (Shylah), his sister, Jessi Lott-Smith (Adam Smith), nieces Taylor Lott and Brook Corter, nephews David Corter, Dominic Smith, and Ethan Smith, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins, and former wife Xiaoxia Jian.

Online remembrances are being shared on Facebook open group: R.I.P Sam Lott.

For anyone wishing to donate to a charity in Sam’s name, we suggest:

Eastern Social Welfare Society (ESWS), a Korean adoption organization.
