Obituary

SEVERINO R. ROLLOLAZO

Severino Reniedo Rollolazo, beloved patriarch of the Rollolazo family, died quietly on August 30, 2010 at the Evergreen Family Home in Kent, Washington at the age of 96. He is survived by his 5 children—Loly, Andre, Rudy, Gloria and Jowell, and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Timotea, and his second son, Larry.

Severino was born to Agustin and Damiana Rollolazo, the 6th of 8 children, in San Nicolas, Pangasinan in the Philippines on November 7, 1913. Twice he ventured to Kauai, Hawaii to work in the pineapple fields in pursuit of a better life. After working there alone for nine years during his second stint, he was reunited with his family when they joined him in 1954. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Seattle where he owned and operated successful gardening and real estate businesses until he retired in 1988. With his wife and children, Severino then fulfilled his dream of traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Severino was affectionately known as ‘Tatay’ meaning father in Ilocano not only by his family, but by all who knew him. Through his selfless sacrifice, steadfast work ethic and boundless generosity, he made it possible for subsequent generations to prosper and for numerous families to immigrate to the United States from the Philippines for an opportunity to pursue a better life.

As a loving and devoted husband, Severino took great care of Timotea, his wife of 71 years, especially during her twilight years when he himself was gravely ill. As a father, he taught by example the principles of wisdom, integrity, courage and humility.
A self-taught musician, he played the trumpet and violin. He also loved to sing, dance and draw and leaves behind an impressive collection of his unique work.

Revered as the patriarch, Severino dedicated his life in service to his entire family. He will be remembered for his great love and dedication, and the impact he had on hundreds of lives. His kind spirit, quiet strength and passion for life will never be forgotten.

Our deepest sympathy with the Rollolazo family. I may not know him very well, but according to my dad, they were very close and they too had wonderful memories together. He described him as a very hospitable man, always had something to offer when he visits his home. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrows.
