Obituary
Shirley Ann Schurman passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023, at Providence Mt. St. Vincent. She was born September 18, 1932 in Yakima, Washington to Anna and Henry Schurman. She attended Holy Rosary Grade School & High School, graduating in 1950, later earning a BA degree in English from Seattle U in 1955. Shirley enjoyed a long career with United Airlines, working for over 30 years at various locations including San Francisco, New York & Seattle. As a single woman employee of United, she travelled the world & told many stories of her adventures.
Shirley took a great interest in & was active in West Seattle politics. Her other passions included knitting, furniture refinishing, garage & yard sales, & shopping as a general hobby. She was also crazy about her Silky Terriers, which over the years, in memoriam, included Pumpkin, Molly, Sara, Rachel & Tabitha.
Family was very important to Shirley. She frequently arranged overseas vacation travel with & for her parents, & she was never absent from any family gatherings, celebrations or events unless absolutely unavoidable! She was always there for family when she was needed. She was a wonderful daughter, caring Sister & Aunt.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Anna, sister Beverly Jeanne, brother Gordon Henry (Marlene). She is survived by sister Diane Rhea (Brother-in-law, Bob), Niece Erin Ball (Jim), Nephew Michael O’Brien (Tracy), Niece Jennifer Lervold (Don), Nephew David Schurman (Trina), Great Nephews Taylor, Hayden, Tate, Quinn, Shane, William, & Great Nieces Kasey (Sebastian), Eleanor & Penelope.
A Rosary will be held on August 22nd at 9:45 AM, at Holy Rosary Church – 4139 42nd Ave SW, Seattle – Followed by Mass at 10:30 AM & Interment at Washington Memorial Cemetery at Noon – 16445 International Boulevard, SeaTac.
