Shirley J. Solberg

Shirley Passed away at age 87 on December 10, 2005 due to complications from emphysema. Born March 30, 1918 in Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter of Harry and Fern Grose. She moved with her family to the Shelton-Olympia area in 1926 and graduated in 1935. She was a long-time resident of Des Moines. She worked for the Boeing Company for 38 years having begun there during the World War II effort riding a bicycle delivering documents between plants and later became an expediter. She was a member of the war effort group of women known as “Rosie the Riveters”. She retired in 1980 and traveled with her husband, Kenneth Solberg, who passed away in 2003. She is survived by her nephew Albert Osterhout and wife Marlene; her niece Sharron Akers and husband David; and her much loved cat, Phoebe.
