Obituary
Shirley, the youngest of 10 children, was born to Jacob and Emma Lindeman on
July 28, 1942 in Beulah, North Dakota. She grew up on her family’s farm until 8 years old in the Dodge, ND, and she attended the local schools; from the farm, her family then moved to Beulah, ND. Upon completion of the first year of high school, she elected to join her sisters, Ruth and Doris in the greater Seattle, Washington area. Later, having borrowed money from her sister Doris, she resumed completion of her high school diploma at Seattle Central Community College, previously known as Edison Tech, while working at “The” grocery store in the Capital Hill area; following, she worked at
“The” Bank then Rainier Bank.
In the first part of 1978, a persistent “handsome” man was in pursuit of Shirley.
Al Presser first asked her for a dance at the RiverSide Inn, a local country dance hall in Tukwila, Washington. From there, they fell in love, and she embraced both Al and his son, Allen Jr.
On March 31, 1979, Shirley married Al Presser at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Seattle. Their daughter Mary was born on February 20, 1980 and shortly thereafter they moved from Burien to West Seattle, and later relocated to Kent, Washington in 1980 where she resided until 2005. Al’s other 2 kids, Deanna and Bill, later joined the household in
1981 and 1983.
Shirley continued her employment at Rainier Bank until 1980, some time later after the birth of Mary. Having moved to Kent, Washington, she gave up her career for the loving care of her new family as a domestic engineer homemaker. In 1981, Shirley supplemented the family income by babysitting for a couple of years. Later, in the early 90’s, when the kids were older, she started housekeeping on the side.
She was a faithful and devout Christian through her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as an example of God’s love on a daily basis. They were members of All Saints’ Lutheran Church where they served the ministry in many capacities, including teaching Sunday school to the children.
Her husband Al was the most important person to her here on earth. Unfortunately, on April 17th, 1995, Al was killed in a tragic work accident.
She was a devoted wife and mother—always loving, happy, compassionate, unselfish, and very hospitable—with a child-like innocence. She had a huge heart, and she dropped everything in her life to care for her husband and new family. She lovingly believed the best about people, and tried to help and serve others to the best of her ability. She was, and always will be, very much loved.
Shirley is survived by her children, Mary, Deanna, Allen, and Bill; her siblings, Otto, Florence, Loise, and Doris; and her grandchildren, Michael, Alicia, William, and Nathan; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Her parents also preceeded her to heaven.
Shirley moved to heaven on Tuesday evening, May 16th, 2006 from Highline Hospital, and she will be buried at Washington Memorial Cemetery, May 20th, 2006.
Shirley is now joined with Al and the rest of The Heavenly Hosts.
