Obituary
Shirley Yuen passed away after a short illness April 20, 2009. She was born August 30, 1938 to Wah Lum King Yuen and Tom Shee Yuen. She attended Garfield High School and graduated in 1956. She was one of the first members of the Seattle Chinese Community Girls Drill Team. She briefly attended the University of Washington and worked for the US Government for 33 years in the Defense Supply Agency, Department of Navy Personnel, and National Park Service. When she retired in 1994, she was working at the National Parks Service as a concessions assistant.
Shirley had a love for music and would go to musicals and concerts with her sisters. She also loved to travel and took various trips including Washington, DC; Virginia; Yellowstone National Park; San Francisco; and Glen Canyon in Arizona. She enjoyed activities sponsored by the Senior Centers around the area and loved walking around the city, especially at the Olympic Sculpture Park. She would often go with her family to parks around Seattle such as Volunteer, the Zoo, and Homer Harris.
For the last four years, she had been caring for her older sister. She often said that her sister took care of her in her younger days and that now it was her turn.
Her eyes would light up whenever she saw her family, especially little Adria.
She is survived by her sister Minnie, niece, Alice Rod, grandnieces Michelle Doug, Cheryl Chris, and great-grandniece Adria. She was predeceased by her parents and two other sisters, Margaret and Mabel.
