Obituary
Sonja Hatton passed away quietly at home October 13, 2016 after a long illness. She was with her husband Clifford P Hatton, her son Clifford L Hatton her daughter in-law Terrylee Hatton and her horse Anna.
Sonja had overcome a lot in her 81 years, from growing up in Germany during WWll. Her father was captured by the Russian’s and not knowing if he was alive the family crossed the Berlin wall into West Germany with her Grandmother, Mother Gertrude and her Brother Peter and Sister Johanna. Sonja’s family was eventually reunited in Frankfurt Germany including two brothers that who were taken in to the German Military at a young age.
Sonja met her husband Clifford P Hatton when he was stationed in Germany with a tank battalion during the Korean War in 1950. Cliff had met Sonja’s dad Lothar Ulbrich at the military base and was learning German from him and Cliff was teaching Lothar English. Sonja and her friend Renata were running through the barracks looking for her dad, she was having 16 her birthday party. This is when Sonja and Cliff first met and it was love at first site. They soon started dating and were married when Sonja was 18.
Shortly after being married Sonja returned to the United States with Cliff. They lived in Kentucky where Cliff was from. Sonja and Cliff sponsored Sonja’s family so they could come to the United States. This is where Sonja and Cliff started their family. Clifford L Hatton was born in 1955 and Sonja Ann Love was born in 1960. Shortly after Sonja Ann was born Cliff got an offer from Boeing and the cross country move started. They settled in what is now the city of Sea Tac, Washington.
Sonja was an accomplished Shot Gun and Pistol shooter and was once classed as one of the top female shot gun marksmen in the United States. Shot gun shooting was a family affair and both Cliff jr and Sonja Ann are accomplished marksmen too. Sadly Sonja had to give up her shooting because of health problems. Sonja continued to support Cliff Sr. and Cliff Jr. along with one of their grandsons Kenny Hatton in their team shooting.
In her later years she loved her two Belgium horse’s Blondie and Anna. She would go out on her deck and feed the horse’s apples and carrots. She always called them her gentle giants.
Sonja was a loving grandmother and great grandmother to Stephanie Chipp (Ryann), Jenifer Wilmot, Kenny Hatton (Ryann), Trevor Love, Julia Love, Rebekah Graham and great grandchildren JamesDean, Austyn and Finley. All truly loved by their grandma. Sonja is reunited with her parents, two brothers and sister
