Obituary
Sr. Cecile Roux, SP, died on November 1, 2012, at 4:00 pm at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle, WA at 82 years of age, after 60 years as a Sister of Providence. The Vigil Service will be on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 7:00 pm, at St. Joseph Residence, 4800 37th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, November 8, 2012, 11:00 am, same location. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle following the Mass. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
She was born on April 1, 1930, to Lucien and Florida (Jalbert) Roux, in Westford, MA. She was the eldest of two daughters. Her aunt, Sister Olier of the Blessed Sacrament, was a Sister of Providence, and arranged for her to live with the Sisters of Providence in Burlington, Vermont, while attending Catholic school taught by the Sisters of Mercy. These experiences formed the initial seed of her vocation.
Sr. Cecile entered the Sisters of Providence on January 18, 1952, in Montreal, made her first profession on July 19, 1953, and her final vows July 19, 1956. As a Sister of Providence, she celebrated her Golden Jubilee (50 yrs.) in 2002 and her Diamond Jubilee (60 yrs.) in 2012. Named by the Sisters of Providence to be a teacher, she attended summer school at the College of Great Falls (now, University of Great Falls), Great Falls, MT.
Her ministry assignments included: Elementary School Teacher – Maryville Academy, Des Plaines, IL., Sacred Heart School, Tacoma, WA., and St. Catherine School, Seattle, WA.; Teacher’s Aid/Remedial Reading, St. Finbar School, Burbank, CA.; Multiple Sclerosis Counseling Intern, University of Oregon Health Science Center, Portland, OR; Receptionist, Lifetime Learning Center, Seattle, WA.; and Patient Visitor, Esther Pariseau Pavilion, Burbank, CA.
Sr. Cecile retired in 1986 to join other retired sisters at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle, WA.
She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her sister, Gabrielle Atwood of Shirley, MA, a niece, Cecilia Kronis of St. Ayer, MA, a cousin, Gerald Roux of Auburn, WA, and by her community of the Sisters of Providence.
