Susan Kay (Bahr) Groves was born on July 19, 1947, in Arlington Heights and raised in Palatine, Illinois to Alice (Chidley) Bahr and Albert “Al” Bahr. Her parents preceded her in death, along with her sister, Linda (Bahr) Metters.

During her school years, Susan was active in Dance and Girls Club. She graduated from Palatine High School in 1965. Susan then attended technical school and became one of only eight to become a Certified X-Ray Technician, working at the local hospital. She eventually moved West to Redding, California, where she continued doing x-ray work.

In 1970, Susan moved to Seattle, Washington after meeting Ira “Bill” Groves, Jr. She married Ira on September 25, 1971. Together, they have two sons, John W. and Robert I.; daughters-in-law Steffanie and Brenda; and grandchildren Delia, Clara, Autumn, and Robbie.

When she was younger, Susan loved going to her uncle’s turkey farm and going camping. She loved the ocean, light houses, gardening, and cooking. She also loved live music, especially Opera and Jazz! She was a fan of the Seahawks and the Bears. Additionally, she was active with the Boy Scouts; a mentor at the local elementary school; and a past member of the ladies’ Bible Study Group at Marine View Presbyterian Church, Dash Point, WA.

In June 2011, Susan suffered a severe stroke. Susan was a true fighter and worked hard to regain her ability to walk and speak. She is remembered as an ever-loving, caring Wife, Mom, and Grandma. She is greatly missed.
