Sybil M. Ellis

Sybil M. Ellis was born September 21, 1940, in Los Angeles to the union of Shelby and Vivian Ellis .  She was the second of 3 children. In 2006, she took a leap of faith and relocated to Seattle. Sybil possessed an indescribable devotion towards her family; she cherished and exemplified her unconditional love for them all.

In 1971, Sybil Ellis accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the Bible Missionary Church in Los Angeles, Calif.  In 1974, she joined Greater Height Baptist Church (AKA: Greater Height Mission Bible Church) where she served as a Coordinator for the Missions Committee under the direction of Pastor Calvin Sills. After moving to Seattle, Sybil later joined the Mount Calvary Christian Center Church where she indisputably exemplified Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your strength.”  Her vivacious and optimistic personality was highly contagious and exceedingly admired. She lovingly served as a Department Aide for Children’s Ministry, VBS Ministry, Homeless Ministry, and she was one of the most charming members of the Senior Mother’s Ministry.  Sybil also possessed the uncanny ability to encourage others to make the best out of every seemingly bad situation.  She was dearly loved by the MCCC church family.

Sybil attended Horace Mann Elementary School (Seattle), and Manual Arts High School (Los Angeles, Ca.). Sybil was resolutely passionate about education; she attended Biola University (La Mirada, CA.) where she earned her undergraduate degree in Social Science.

Sybil didn’t stop there; she later attended Graduate School at the University of Washington where she earned her MSW degree, as well as attaining a certificate in Business.  In 1959, she enlisted in the United States Army and later received an honorary discharge in 1966.

Sybil’s was the founder and CEO of Youth in Crisis (YIC), which was a Christian Residential Program for adolescent girls who were either on probation or truant.

Sybil leaves to cherish her memories: Son, Roger Ellis; Brother, Robert Ellis (Mary); sister, JoAnn Parnell (James); Granddaughters, LaShanda Ball (Lloyd) and Nichole Ellis; Grandson, Nicholas Ellis (LaTisha); Great grandsons, Jaylon Ellis and Lloyd Ball, Jr; and Great granddaughter Jordyn Ellis.
