Sylvia was born in Seattle, graduated from Ballard High School and raised her family in Ballard on Sunset Hill. The joys of her life were boating with family and friends, neighborhood walks, Golden Gardens, trips to Hawaii with the ‘girls’, gardening, and friendships developed with neighbors while operating the family grocery store on Sunset Hill, and later at nearby neighborhood stores.
She is preceded in her passing by her husband of 53 years, Tony and son, David. She is survived by son, Gary, his wife and Sylvia’s best friend, Donna, and grandsons, Michael and Matthew West.
Every day was a rich and blessed day to Sylvia, whether bright or gloomy. All will miss her smiles, cheer and true friendship.
Compassionate and loving care provided by staff at both Foundation House Northgate and Howard and Cindy’s Adult Family Home provided comfort through her recent health issues.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Sylvia was partial to Seattle Children’s Hospital, Child Life Department and animal welfare causes. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home, 2003 NW 57th St., Seattle Ballard, WA 98107.
Dear Donna & Gary: We are both so sorry for your loss. I loved Sylvia as you both did and considered her my 2nd mother. What a nice tribute to you Donna with Sylvia calling you ‘her best friend’ and that is so true. You both were so wonderful to her, she could not have asked for better care. She will be truly missed by all those whose life she touched. She was so kind & friendly to all who knew her. I will miss her too. Diane West & Jim Solie
