Terry Dean Henderson
Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Terry Dean Henderson, age 70, of Federal Way, WA, announces his passing. He went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma, after suffering a stroke.
Terry was born on September 1, 1948, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Louis and Marie (Muri) Fugle, who preceded him in death. Terry and Patricia Brack were married on December 23, 1973, in Lawrence, Kansas.
After completing a two year degree in computer science, Terry served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He then decided to pursue a degree in aeronautical engineering at the University of Kansas. Upon finishing his Master of Engineering degree in 1977, Terry worked for Beechcraft in Wichita for three years. In 1980, Terry and Patricia moved their young family to Federal Way when he started working for Boeing, as an aeronautical engineer, specializing in acoustics.
Terry had a heart and love for helping others, whether it was family and nearby friends or those far away. The kitchen table was never too small to add one more place. He volunteered at Marine View Presbyterian Church in Tacoma as an elder and was on the Mission Commission for many years. During that time he also organized and led two trips to help with Hurricane Katrina relief. He had a passion for travel and combined that with four mission trips to Guatemala in the 1990s, where he led teams in building a Christian school in Santa Cruz Barillas. Over the years, he attended many work weekends at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island, as well as volunteering for Camp Fire USA with his daughters. Terry loved to explore other places, learning about history, as well as returning to old favorites, especially Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Kauai. While Terry thoroughly enjoyed watching the Mariners and the Seahawks, he was always ready for college basketball. He embodied the saying “Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk.” He was a loyal Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan, watching every game and enjoying every minute. After he retired from Boeing in 2012, Terry stayed in touch with friends from Boeing by suggesting a lunch get together about once a month.
Terry Henderson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia (Brack) Henderson, two daughters, Sarah (Paul) Ringstad, Laura (Tim) Lavrov and two grandsons. His surviving siblings are Betty (Del) Engel, Shirley Mahan and Don (Kaye) Henderson. Terry is also survived by seven nieces and great nieces and six nephews and great nephews. A sister and brother, Jackie Bankus and Gary Fugle, and one nephew preceded him in death.
Terry Henderson was interred in a private graveside service on January 25, 2019, at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, WA. The family will plan a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, WA, date and time to be announced. Arrangements are being handled by Bonney Watson Funeral Home in Federal Way, WA.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma for their kindness and care.
We will miss you and cherish your memory always.
