Obituary

Thomas ‘Skip’ Umporowicz Sr., age 72 died peacefully on May 31, 2013 in Seattle Washington. Skip is survived by his wife of 50-years, Carol; his son Tom and his wife Carrie; daughters Susan and her husband, Scott Snider and JoAnne Finn; grandchildren Anna, Logan, Sam, McKenna and Chloe; his brother Dennis and his wife Carolyn Umprovitch.

 

Skip was a veteran of the United States Navy, and served as longtime Police Chief in Everson Throughout the 1970’s, and again in the mid-1980’s. When starting the job of Everson Police Chief after moving from his hometown of Chicago Illinois, Skip became the founding member of the Everson Police Department, and was its sole Police Officer at the beginning. Over the years, Skip was able to hire other Police Officers and grow the Everson Police force before retiring in the late 1970’s. During the mid-1980’s, Skip returned from retirement to head the Everson Police Department once again. At that time, he hired Officer Erik Ramstead and his son, Thomas Umporowicz Jr. to fill the primary positions within the Department. Erik would later go on to become a longtime, popular Police Chief of the Everson Police Department and Thomas Umporowicz Jr. a veteran Police Sergeant with the Seattle Police Department, who currently runs the South Precinct Anti-Crime Team for the Seattle Police Department.

 

A private gathering of family and close friends celebrating Skip’s life will be held near his wife’s home in Burlington Washington.
