Obituary

Timotea Esteban Rollolazo

In the early morning on Sunday July 22nd, with her husband and several family members at her side, Timotea Esteban Rollolazo died peacefully at Evergreen Family Home in Kent, Washington. Timotea was affectionately known as “Nanay", which means Mom in Illocano.

Nanay is survived by her husband of 70 years, Severino Rollolazo, sister Betty, brother Teofilo, and 5 children, Loly, Andre, Rudy, Gloria, and Jowell, with son Larry preceding her in death. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Nanay was born on August 28, 1918 in San Nicolas, Pangasinan, Philippines. In 1954, Nanay and her five children immigrated to Kauai, Hawaii to join her husband Severino. There, she worked at the Dole Pineapple Cannery and bore another son. In 1957, Nanay’s family moved to Seattle, Washington in search of a better life. Nanay worked at Overall Cleaning and Supply as a skilled and highly respected seamstress until age 62. With her husband and children, Nanay fulfilled her dream of traveling throughout Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and across the United States. She was especially proud that she and her husband helped dozens of family members from the Philippines by sponsoring them to come to the United States.

Revered as the matriarch, Nanay dedicated her life in service of her entire family. She will be remembered for her great love and devotion, and the impact she had on hundreds of lives. Her savvy way with money, hospitality, generosity, cooking, tenacity, and affinity for tidiness will never be forgotten.

I will miss Grandma Ekiang greatly. I am heartbroken that she passed so suddenly. She was the matriarch for all the

Rollolazo family and the glue that kept all the Rollolazos together. Yes she was

Rollolazo by namesake due to marriage, but she was the best Rollolazo I have ever known. She was loving, kind, and sincere to EVERYONE, even the newest of “friends.” In fact, I observed she treated everyone like family. She spoke up and spoke out and corrected the wrongs and hurt caused by others. My regret is that I did not visit her in the last years in her time of need to reciprocate the love she had shown. I would wish that each branch of the Rollolazo family tree would honor her and uphold her legacy in filling the matriarch duty as she so sincerely and lovingly has done. In this time of grieving as we miss her and the impact of her passing is truly felt, I pray that our faith in God will ease our sorrowful burden as we learn to celebrate her life even more. My love and sympathy to the adult children, the grown grandchildren, and the remaining young generations and generations to come. Farewell for now to our “beloved queen” till we see her again in heaven.
