Obituary

After a long and loving life, Velma L. Logue passed away on November 26,2003, in Des Moines, WA. Velma was born in Los Angeles, CA on Oct. 9, 1908 to Leroy H. and Junie Josephine Squire Woods. Velma attended school in LA and graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1936. She married Lee Marvin Logue in 1925. It was interesting to see that Marvin signed her report cards from high school. Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years in 1987. Their only son, Richard Lee, passed away in 1986.

From 1942 to 1963 Velma worked for Pacific Tel & Tel as an information operator in Los Angeles and was a leader for Richard’s Boy Scout Troop.

Velma’s life was dedicated to God and to her family. She had been a member of the Figueroa Christian Church in Los Angeles, where she was baptized in 1940. Since moving to Washington, Velma was a faithful member of the Burien Community Church. Part of her many church activities were teaching Vacation Bible School, Junior Church, and Sunday School. She often served as song leader for various church activities. She was on the Spiritual Life Committee at Judson Park Retirement Community since 1996. Wherever she was, Velma was always a willing and cheerful helper. She has been a member of the Angle Lake Garden Club since 1969, and had been a Board Member of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs.

Velma loved to play games with her family and friends. Pinochle, King in the Corner, and dominoes were favorites, but she was always willing to try a new game. She loved visiting with her extended family, taking numerous photographs, buying clothes, and every meal was the ”most delicious” she had ever had. Velma attended Highline Community College, taking Spanish and writing classes. Over the years she wrote many wonderful stories about her family and her early life.

She is survived by one grandson, four step granddaughters, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous cousins. Velma loved generously and was a faithful to all her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 12/06/03 at 2:00 PM at the Burien Community Church, 16241 19th Ave. SW, Burien, WA. A private committal service will be held at the Rose Hills Memorial Park of Whittier, CA. The family has entrusted arrangements to BONNEY-WATSON Parker Chapel, 900 SW 146th St., Burien, WA. 206244-2320.

Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Washington, Inc., Fred Hutchison Cancer Research, Highline Medic 1, or the Heart Fund.
