Obituary

Vera Gooden

Vera Gooden daughter of the late Rossi Adams passed away Sunday morning, February 8, 2009, in her home. Vera was the third youngest out of seven brothers and sisters. She was born June 4, 1955 in Merced, CA.

Vera was a high school graduate, and not long after graduation attended cosmetology school. She enjoyed the hair profession so much that she eventually owned and operated her own beauty shop for fourteen years.

She was the wonderful mother of two daughters, Tia and Aishat. After moving to Seattle, WA in 1997, she also became a foster parent for six years. She not only showered love upon her own children, but upon the foster children brought into her home. If you were to ask if she was proud grandmother, the response would be ‘YES’ with a big smile.

No matter how she felt physically, Vera loved to serve the Lord and, remained a faithful member of Tabernacle of Praise Church until God called her home, ‘while preparing for Sunday service!’

Vera, had a weakness for elephants. In fact, she was the ‘queen of elephants, whether a figurine, T-shirt, or a coffee table in the shape of an elephant, she loved elephants!

She is survived by two daughters: Aishat Collins and Tia Gooden, grandchildren; Anika Thomas, Erica Gooden and Alica Gooden, seven sisters and brothers: Lavada Banks, Larry Newson, Wanda Patterson, Ethel De Suze, Rollo Adams of Merced, CA; Leatrice Adams of Seattle and, a host of nieces and nephews.
