Obituary
Verlin Omar Dowd
Dowd, as most knew him, passed away April 27, 2017, at the age of 91. He was born November 29, 1925, in Wellington, Kansas.
After graduating from Wellington High School, he worked for the Boeing Company, in Seattle, until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1944. He went on to study at the University of Kansas in 1945 earning his BA in Business. He then ventured out to Alaska and worked as a waiter at a military base in Adak. Returning to Seattle, he began his career with Northwest Airlines in 1952, working as a Ticket Agent for nearly 40 years. Loved by coworkers and passengers alike, after trying a supervisory position he decided he preferred working with customers. With his upbeat sense of humor and calm demeanor he deftly helped folks through the inevitable frustrations associated with airline travel. Dowd met his devoted wife of 57 years, Betty (Lish), in Seattle, and they were able to travel extensively. He liked to point out that he had traveled to every continent except Antarctica.
A much loved uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews, Dowd was preceded in death by his older brother Merle. His wonderful take on life will not be forgotten. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, SeaTac, at 12:00 noon. Inurnment in Mountain View columbarium facing the control tower.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Red Cross, National Federation of the Blind, or your favorite charity.
So sorry. You will be greatly missed. Love Diana
