Vern L. Snorteland
1925-2004
Vern was born in Maple Leaf, South Dakota on December 6, 1925 to Lars and Vollie Snorteland, joining three older sisters – Genevieve, Caroline, and Hazel. He moved to Billings, Montana as a young man in the late 1930’s. He moved to Seattle in 1950, and in 1952 met his future wife, Yvonne Condell. They were married on May 1, 1953. Vern settled into a career with the phone company, working for Pacific Northwest Bell, then later AT&T, for over 30 years. Following his retirement from AT&T in 1984, Vern began working with his father-in-law and best friend, Bill Condell, in the siding industry. Later, Vern partnered with his son, Mark, working for S/C Visions until March of this year, finally retiring after having worked for over 60 years. Vern was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church for over 37 years. He was an avid bowler for over 60 years. Vern passed away peacefully on September 12, 2004 surrounded by his loving family from complications due to lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Yvonne, his three children, Mark Carla of Milton, Tony of Auburn, and Diana Podoll Troy of Maple Valley, his six grandchildren, Brandie Riedel, Tonya, Spencer, and Nichole Snorteland, Travis and Kaylin Podoll, his sister, Caroline Johnson, of Langford, SD, his sister-in-law, Patricia Weller, of SeaTac, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lars and Vollie, his sisters Genevieve Carpenter and Hazel Matheny. Services Saturday, September 18, 2004, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St., Federal Way, WA 98003. Dear Yvonne & Family: Please accept our sincerest and heartfelt sympathy. Vern was a great person and we so enjoyed knowing him and the rest of the family. Your family has been in our prayers since Vern’s diagnosis. We know in our hearts that he is with his Lord.
