Violet Mary Georgia HANAHAN

Violet Mary Georgia Hanahan was born July 8, 1920 in Melfort Saskatchewan Canada to Ed and Ellen Long. She was the eldest child of a family of ten.  She loved working with horses on the family farm in Saskatchewan. 

She became a bookkeeper and moved to Renton Washington USA where she worked at Boeing Aerospace for 25 years.  She married Sulo T. Hanahan August 4th 1951. They enjoyed their life together in Renton until his passing November 10th 1990.  She enjoyed keeping up with the additions to the various extended family. She was very kind to all of her nieces and nephews, taking great interest in all of their activities.  When she and Sulo retired she continued to enjoy gardening, flower arranging and landscape painting. (One of her paintings won 1st prize at the N.W.W.Fair in Lynden last year).  She was a long time Mariner Baseball fan.  She moved to Everson WA about 10 years ago to be nearer family. Recently she was living in her own home with caregivers until she had a massive stroke and died a week later in Hospice House in Bellingham. She died on August 4th which was her wedding anniversary. 

Violet is survived by 1 brother – Garry Long and his wife Elaine; 3 sisters – Betty Mann, Lois Ables and Pat Hughes and 2 sister-in-laws whose husbands pre-deceased them – Inez Long and Ida Grace Long. Also numerous nieces and nephews. All of the immediate family was together on her 95th birthday in July this year. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday August 22nd at 2:00 PM at the Everson Presbyterian Church 204 N. Washington Street Everson. Spud Bronkema will officiate.  Special thanks goes to Vicki Looten and her wonderful care giving team. 

Donations may be made to Hospice House or your favorite charity.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Vi for the past 31 years. She was a wonderful lady, fabulous hostess, and a family historian. I’ll miss her dearly!

She treated my siblings and I like her own children. I believe I got my love of cats ftom Her! Such a sweet loving lady. We’very missed having her in our lives. Bless you Violet, and your family. Thank you for taking care of 4 motherless kids!
