Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Vương Thị Hồng announces her passing on February 15, 2025, at the age of 76.

Hong will be lovingly remembered by her children, Phuong and her husband Greg, and An and his daughter Kailyn. She is also survived by her many sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Hong now joins in rest her beloved mother, Nam, her father, Lieu, and many other cherished loved ones. With a large family, Hong’s reach was wide, and deeply cherished by many.

In 1975 at 27 years old, Hong immigrated to the United States with only the clothes on her back. She, along with her sister, Thu Van, took on the incredible responsibility of caring for and raising their four younger siblings. During the next ten years, Hong and her siblings in the U.S. were not able to contact their mother and remaining siblings in Vietnam for fear that they may be persecuted. In 1985, she and her sisters began petitioning the U.S. government to bring their mother and remaining siblings to the United States. They were successful and the family reunited in 1990. Her family has immense gratitude for her sacrifice and unconditional love for them.

Alongside these responsibilities, Hong raised her two children, Phuong and An, with tremendous pride in the individuals they have become. She spent 26 years in the Accounting department at U.S. Oil and Refinery. Later in life, she became a dedicated member of the YMCA. Hong found joy and companionship at the Lakewood YMCA where she spent several hours a day.

Hong’s passing is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched.

A funeral service for Hong will take place on February 25, 2025, at 10:00 am at Bonney Watson Funeral Home in SeaTac, WA. Those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcome.
