Walter Ebberson
Walter Ebberson, a longtime resident of Renton, passed away on February 27, 2017 at Tacoma.
He was 92 years old. He was employed many years at PACCAR as a tool engineer.
After 52 years of marriage he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian in 1997.
Walter was born on June 9, 1924, and grew up on a small farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska and was one of eight brothers and sisters of which he was the last survivor. At the beginning of World War II, he joined the US Navy and served four years aboard the USS Saratoga (CV3) in the South Pacific. During the battle of Iwo Jima he was injured on the flight deck and received a Purple Heart. At the end of the war, he married Lillian in Seattle and then attended a tech school in Chicago on the GI Bill.
Through the years, Walter enjoyed working in his yard, camping, taking road trips and keeping up with the news. Each year he looked forward to hosting the family Fourth of July picnic. Mostly he loved to tell stories about his youth in Nebraska and his many experiences on the Saratoga during the war. He maintained several scrapbooks and journals of his military service and family records.
Walter is survived by his son Rand (Linda) of Seattle and his daughter Sandra (Peter) of Port Orchard, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 1:00pm at Bonney-Watson Federal Way, 1535 SW Dash Point Rd, Federal Way, WA.
My Grandfather was a Nebraska boy as well, with five brothers and a sister. I remember the annual family get-togethers that he, and so many others of that era took part in; and oh, how I remember the heritage of those stores. Your gift of family and service is truly an honor and a blessing to all.
I met him when he married my sister, he was the kindest person ever. also was good to my mother before she passed away. I always felt he was there for them when I was always so far away.I am sure they are all together again. God bless him.
