Walter FITZGIBBON Sr.
Born September 12, 1922 in Dry Bay, AK of Tlingit and Irish heritage. Walter served in the US Navy during WWII where he was stationed in Oklahoma working as an airplane mechanic and there he met his wife Dorothy. They moved to Ketchikan, AK in 1957. Walter worked for and retired from Alaska Airlines after 30 years. Walter and Dorothy divorced in 1962. 40 years later, after both were widowed, they remarried in Oklahoma City, OK. After Dorothy died in 2005, Walter moved back to Seattle and lived with his daughter and son-in-law. Even though he was in Seattle, Walter remained very close to Dorothy’s sister and brother-in-law Betty and Charles McFadden in OKC. He died after a prolong illness July 30, 2006 in Burien. He was also preceded in death by his son Walter Jr. Walter Sr. was the beloved father of Ann Close and her husband Buzz Osborne of Burien; father-in-law of Carmen Fitzgibbon; grandfather of Trisime and Sonja Close and Damon and Alec Fitzgibbon; great-grandfather of 6 and brother of Mary Fitzgibbon of Ketchikan, AK. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and a very large extended family. Visitation Thursday, August 3, 2006 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Friday August 4, 2006 9:00 AM until the service at 3:00 PM at Bonney-Watson Parker Chapel, 900 SW 146th Street, Burien. Walt and I had a few things in common. Alaska Airlines maintenance technicians, union brothers, and the same first name. I liked him alot and respected his welding abilities, as well as other things. He will be sorely missed. I would have attended his service had I known in time and not been out of town. My deepest condolences to his friends and family.
