Walter Richard Anderson
Walter Richard Anderson passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Richard was born on October 11, 1933 to Walter and Jessie Anderson. He married Patricia Smith on September 6, 1963 and was later sealed to her in the Logan, UT Temple.
Richard was an avid student and earned his bachelor’s degree from Washington State University, master’s degree and PhD in Dairy Science from Penn State and a postdoctoral degree from UCLA. He was quickest to claim his alma mater as Washington State University. His employment in the agriculture industry took him and his family on adventures across the world. They lived in Pakistan and Lebanon, where he taught at the American University of Beirut. While in Lebanon he traveled to various regions teaching local dairy farmers how to modernize their techniques and increase milk production.
He always had stacks of books and enjoyed studying the Bible and the Book of Mormon. He enjoyed gardening and making things grow. His gardening prowess lead to the propagation of a new type of blueberry plant. He also grew a five-foot tall lemon tree from the seed of a store-bought lemon.
Of all the things he grew, his family was his most acclaimed accomplishment. Richard and Patricia are the parents of seven children – Lauren, Dwight, Alydia, Deona, Dale, Darren, and Cherisse. They have 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Linda and Ardis. He is survived by his brother Donald and sisters, Barbara, Sandra and Marilyn.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Seattle Stake Center, located at 14022 Ambaum Blvd SW. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Internment will take place at Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park.
