Waltraud “Trudy” Lilly Bolden
Waltraud “Trudy” Lilly Bolden was born on October 14, 1934 in West Breman, Germany to Erik and Margaret Bolze. As one of 11 children, she was a responsible daughter and sister, growing up fast after her mother died during childbirth and Trudy was tasked with helping raise her siblings. In the early morning hours of March 15, 2017, Trudy fell into eternal slumber after a 5 year battle with Lung Cancer. In 1992, Trudy packed up and moved from Compton California to Seattle, Washington. Trudy thrived in Washington and went to work as a Food Technician at First A.M.E. Head Start where she worked for 22 years. At lunch you could always find her across the street at Starbucks on 23rd & Jackson Street, enjoying her drip coffee. It was at that particular Starbucks that many family members would fly in and surprise her because you could set your watch by her visits there, she retired in 2014. She loved to shop and had a stylish wardrobe, she loved to dance and she loved watching the community dancing till dusk in downtown Seattle. Trudy loved her family! She wasn’t bothered by the rambunctiousness of kids or the noise when they all got together and talked all over each other. As often as she could, she supported the kids in their sporting events and recitals, making her way to the front of the crowds to holler “that’s my baby!” You couldn’t miss her voice because though it came from one so small, it carried authority and love and a heavy German accent mixed with a little Compton/CD slang. Preceding Waltraud “Trudy” Bolden in death are her parents, her daughter Delores and sons Horst and Eric and grandson Preston. Left to cherish her memory and honor her legacy are her 3 daughters, Diana Bereal (Michael) Compton, CA, Patricia Mitchell (Robert) Seattle, WA, Ursula Casey (Will) Paramount, CA, and son Patrick of Los Angeles, CA, 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and hundreds of children who passed through her loving care during her life as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Trudy’s tenacity and love of life will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Family and friends are invited to share their memories with the family on Bonney-Watson’s website.

I’ve known Ms. Bolden since I was eight years old. Its not too many people i would trust to watch my children but i trusted her with all four. She loved mine as if they were hers and i loved her for that and more. Ms. Bolden will be truly missed. Rest in Heaven after you dance on the streets of gold.

Ms. Trudi as Diane’s mom, my cousins’ mother, was available to talk to as her presence was clearly felt…which, for me, is a heAli g gift, wielded by angels.

I’m so glad to have met this lovely lady so many years ago. To close my eyes and picture Auntie (as she allowed me to call her with affection) I see her beautiful smile. It showed me her warmth and strength. I saw in her eyes the love she had for her children & for other children that crossed her path. I know you will R.I.P. (Rest in paradise) Auntie you are going to be loved & missed not only by your family but by those who encountered your beautiful smile & bright eyes. Love DeeDee
