During her childhood her family moved often. She lived in Spiro, Oklahoma; Havana Community, Oklahoma; Mena, Arkansas; Stigler, Oklahoma; and Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
She began her first year at school in a one-room schoolhouse in the Havana Community near Stigler, Oklahoma. Upon completion of high school in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Wanda began her career working as a telephone operator for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. While working at the telephone company she began dating Harold D. Hardin (better known as Pat which was his nickname).
Wanda and Pat were married in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on December 18, 1953. Then Pat decided to enlist in the Army as a better means to support the new addition to the family they were expecting. Their daughter, Sherry, was born in December 1954.
When Wanda’s husband Pat had finished his basic training, he was transferred with the Army to Seattle, Washington. Wanda and daughter Sherry traveled to Seattle by train to see Pat where they stayed with her Aunt Nola Thayer until Pat had a leave from the Army. They then all traveled back to Oklahoma. After his leave, Pat returned to Seattle by himself.
As there was no work in Oklahoma, Wanda decided to move to Seattle, Washington. Wanda and Pat decided to live in Seattle where their son David was born in February 1959. They bought their first home and a few years later a second home where she lived until the last two years of her life.
Wanda was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She later began working as an Admittance Clerk for the West Seattle Hospital, was promoted to Supervisor, and worked there four years. She next worked for a year for Global Moving and Storage as an office clerk. Her longest position was with Dr. Deak where she worked 18 years as his office manager. Her last position was with a Physical Therapy Co. for three years before she retired.
Wanda always enjoyed camping and for many years they had a Fifth Wheel Trailer which they used to enjoy the beautiful Northwest country. She was also a member of the Eagles in White Center, Washington.
After retirement Wanda and her husband took several trips visiting various areas of the U.S. For their 50th Wedding Anniversary they traveled to Hawaii. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage before her husband “Pat” died in June 2012.
Wanda always enjoyed gardening, needlework, attending the theater, especially musicals, and reading a good novel or simply listening to music.
During the last 1-1/2 years she lived at Village Green Assisted Living in Federal Way, Washington. Wanda loved the beautiful surroundings, the staff, and the friends she made while living there. She thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the many activities offered by Village Green and attending the numerous concerts at her facility.
