Obituary

Wayne (Bud) Heberling, age 92, passed away peacefully at home in Burien, WA, on Thursday, February 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Heberling was born on October 6, 1924, in Burlington, WA, to Lee and Bada Heberling. 

 

Bud graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1942, worked the family farm, joined the Army in 1944 and served in the South Pacific during World War II.  Upon returning from the war, Bud studied Refrigeration and Heating Systems in Chicago, IL.   He returned to Washington in 1950 and was employed by the Washington Natural Gas Company in the service department for 37 years. He was an active member of the Highline United Methodist Church in Burien for 63 years receiving the Cross and Flame Award for outstanding service to children and youth for his participation and leadership in Boy Scout Troop 352. 

 

Bud will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandkids.  He was an avid Seahawks and Mariners fan who enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, playing games, reading and keeping things in all around working order.  Bud could fix anything.

 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie (Dede); his children John Heberling of Mukilteo, WA, Dale (Bridget) Heberling of Milwaukie, OR, and Shari (Wayne) Dressler of Le Roy, NY; his seven grandchildren, Sydnie Heberling, Krissy (Chris) Abbey, Robert (Amber) Heberling, Matthew and Mary Heberling, and Reanne and Kendan Dressler; and his three great-grandchildren Hailey, Caleb, and Ethan Abbey.

 

Bud was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Helene Feckley and Shirley Rieker.

 

Graveside service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA, on Monday, February 20, at 1:00 PM.  Memorial Service will be held at Highline United Methodist Church, 13015 First Ave South, Burien, WA, 98168, at 3:00 PM with reception following.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Highline United Methodist Church or the Group Health Foundation Hospice Fund, P.O. Box 34015, Seattle, WA  98124.

Dede, John, Shari, and families, I am so sorry about the loss of Bud, and have you all in my thoughts. My thanks to you John, for introducing me to yourself and your wonderful family. Dede you and Bud are gems, and I am so grateful to those visits with you at your home. God bless each and everyone of you. and may the many precious memories that you have of Bud over the years, bring you all much comfort.
