Wendell Montes Bernadas, Sr., aged 62, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Seattle, Washington. Born on July 13, 1961, in Cebu, Philippines, Wendell grew up to embody the virtues of strength, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his duties.
Wendell served six years in the US Army Reserves, where he trained as an electrician. His military discipline translated into his civilian career, where he excelled as a supervisor, foreman, and journeyman in the construction industry. His work ethic and leadership were respected and admired by his colleagues.
A member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Federal Way, Wendell’s faith was a foundation in his life, guiding him in his actions and providing comfort and community. His faith was evident in his daily life and the way he raised his family.
His passions included unwavering support for local Seattle sports teams, from the Seahawks to the Mariners, and the Sonics. Wendell loved watching football, especially if it was the Seahawks or one of his grandchildren playing. He enjoyed watching basketball, particularly when LeBron James or a grandchild was on the court. He delighted in travel, with a special fondness for Disneyland and his beloved Philippines. And savored meals at his favorite Filipino restaurants Gerry’s Grill and FilCuisine.
A quiet, loving protector, Wendell was a hero to his family. His wife, Vickie Bernadas; his mother, Merope (Douglas) Floether; siblings Jerry Bernadas, Michael Floether, Maura Hovart, Elisa Mariposa, Carlito Borinaga, Veranado Borinaga, Susan Sollano, Luz Luceno, Edwin Borinaga, Leny Glos, and Gary Borinaga; children Melissa Dederick, Evangeline (Ronnal) Ives, Rachel (James) Macalma, Wendell (Nancy) Bernadas, Jr., Liezl Jamison, Kristina Bernadas, and Marc Acuesta. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: AJ Scott, Jazlyn Acuesta, Isabella Ives, Naomi Acuesta, Vincent Bernadas, Ronnal Ives III, Mariana Bernadas, and Christopher Jamison. He was preceded in death by his father, Benicio Borinaga, and siblings Rolando Borinaga, Venus Aquinde, and Glenn Borinaga.
Wendell’s legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will continue to inspire those who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and community. His life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and devotion to family, and he will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held on July 16, 2024, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at Bonney Watson in Federal Way, WA.
Wendell will be laid to rest at Holyrood Cemetery following a memorial mass on July 25, 2024.
